MONOLITHIC MIRROR SLAB

Club Are, London, 2025.

The idea was to suspend a four metre square plane of one-way mirror above a dance floor. The material has no stable appearance of its own. Under one condition of light it returns the crowd as an image; under another, that image disappears and the surface opens onto the space beyond it.

Over the course of the night, the work therefore moves between object, mirror and aperture without physically changing position. The crowd produces the image it encounters, while haze, light and movement continuously redistribute what the surface allows to appear.

The gaze is no longer mastered by the viewer but distributed across surfaces, vibrations, densities and architectures.
